I’m sitting laughing at the promo for next week and then I remember what’s coming and I feel ashamed that I still let SPN drag me in, just to fuck me over in a few eps time.
This has the potential to be a little bit salty/seen as wank so I’m going to drop it under a read more just to be safe :) but thank you for asking two questions, this was fun to think about.
It sucks that the characters are all straight but I think the CW is just trying to be supportive of Pride month as a network and the people who work there and it wasn’t about the orientation of the characters in the tv shows.
I’m not sure why you messaged me specifically out of the 500 people who’ve left notes on that post, but fine, here’s why I’m mad.
As a queer person, that’s not how I personally want to be celebrated. I’m not represented by heterosexual characters who’ve never had to defend their gender/romantic/sexual identity against abuse - rainbow or otherwise.
Pride - the anniversary of the core movement that fought for LGBTQ+ rights, an annual celebration that reminds me and other people that we’re not alone and we’re accepted, that pushes away every foul -phobic name I’ve ever been called in favour of acceptance - is not putting a collage of cishet characters together with a rainbow over the top and claiming to be inclusive.
At least my Pride isn’t. There’s a hundred other ways they could have been inclusive. And that’s why I’m mad.
Excuse me, but you can’t ask who he is and say that Dean is bisexual. Sexuality isn’t what makes you who you are. Who cares? I ship Destiel, but you know what I love more? Their happiness. Respect for them. Respect Dean for goodness’ sake. He isn’t his sexuality, whatever that may be, he is DEAN.
